He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a Doctorate Degree in Plant Physiology & Biotechnology from the University of Athens (UOA). As a post-doctoral researcher, he carried out research in plant and microbial biotechnology at the Dept. of Biology – UOA and the Dept. of Biotechnology – Agricultural University of Athens. He trained at Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen-Germany and the University of Calgary, Canada. His current research focuses on plant biology and biotechnology of the grapevine/wine system, with emphasis on grapevine responses to environmental challenges and the biotechnology of vine-associated microbes.

He has acted as a Project Leader or a participant in several European Union and National Research Programs (e.g., WildWine FP7-SME-2012-2, MyWINE Cooperation 2011, WestWine Regional Operational Programs West Greece).
